Every year, Pantone announces its Color of the Year, and like clockwork, the design world goes wild. But this year’s pick? Honestly, it feels like déjà vu. We’ve seen this color everywhere already—on Apple products, Beats headphones, Yeezy drops, Skims launches—you name it. It makes me wonder: Is this really the color for the year ahead, or are we just recycling old trends?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice shade, but where’s the excitement? For me, it’s starting to feel like we’re stuck in a loop, chasing what’s safe instead of what’s next. I can’t help but think we’re overdue for something bolder. Red is screaming for attention, and deep navy or forest green has that timeless, sophisticated vibe we’ve been craving.
Maybe I’m biased because I’ve been leaning into those richer, moodier tones lately. They feel fresh, grounded, and way more reflective of where we are right now. So while Pantone’s pick might look good on a mood board, I can’t shake the feeling we’ve already been here.
What do you think—are we sticking to the safe zone, or is it time to push the boundaries a bit?
